ohm meter. This information is for educational purposes only, and Keybits
Lock & Key or carlocksandkeys.com are not responsible for how this

work in your car, and that is entirely your fault. With that said, I hope
you find this information helpful.
How to find the correct vats code when you
lose your vats key.
If you have lost all your vats keys and are unable to find
the correct vats code for your car, than you have one of four options:
- Find a local locksmith to interrogate the vats
system on your car to determine the correct vats value. It may be hard to
find a locksmith that still deals with this technology, but they are out
there. If you live in or near the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles or
Ventura County (Northridge, Chatsworth, Canoga Park, Woodland Hills,
Reseda, Granada Hills, Calabasas, Tarzana, Hidden Hills, West Hills,
Agoura, Westlake Village, Moorpark, Simi Valley) our company,
KeyBits Lock & Key, has
the equipment and expertise to determine the correct vats code for your car. We offer
competitive pricing along with quality workmanship, and we can be reached at
sales@keybitslockandkey.com
or 818-571-5938.
- Your second option is to visit your car dealership
to determine the correct vats code, but expect to pay a premium price for
the work.
- Purchase all 15 different vats keys for the single
sided key, or 14 different vats keys for the double sided key. Once you
have all the keys, have them cut, and than each key can be tried in your
car until you find the correct one. However, you will need to hire a
locksmith to determine the correct cuts for your key, since you lost your
original vats key.
- Purchase all 15 different vats keys for the single
sided key, or 14 different vats keys for the double sided key and also
purchase a new vats ignition cylinder lock. New vats ignition locks do not
come with a vats key, but they do come with a non-vats key that is used to
transfer the correct cuts used in the ignition lock to a new vats key. So,
you can duplicate the cuts from the non-vats key to all the new vats
keys, replace the ignition lock with the new vats ignition lock and try
each new vats key in the lock until the correct vats key is found. New
original equipment vats ignition locks and keys can be found at
carlocksandkeys.com at very
competitive pricing.
I often receive many emails concerning lost vats keys, so I
decided to create this webpage for those people who find themselves stuck
without a key. I hope you find this information helpful and if you have any
further questions or comments we can be reached at the email address or phone
number listed in this webpage.

A popular vats ignition cylinder lock found on many GM cars.
The following Chart shows the Vats Code values and there
respective resistor values in ohms. Divide the ohm values by 1000 to convert the
value to kohms. Example: 402 ohms converted to kohms is 402/1000 = .402 kohms.
Or if your meter is displaying the value in kohms you can convert kohms to ohms
by multiplying by 1000. Example: .402 kohms converted to ohms is .402 x 1000 =
402.
